A warm-up does not need to be complicated. You do not need candles, a motivational playlist, and a 47-step mobility ritual.

You need to prepare the muscles and joints for the work ahead.

Simple warm-up plan

Step 1: General warm-up

Do 3-10 minutes of easy movement:

  • Bike

  • Walking

  • Rowing machine

  • Light dynamic movement

Step 2: Add joint-specific prep

For upper body:

  • Face pulls

  • External rotations

  • Wall slides

  • Prone Y Raises

For lower body:

  • Bodyweight squats

  • Hip hinges

  • World’s Greatest Stretch

  • Light leg extensions or curls

  • Leg swings

Step 3: Specific warm-up

Do lighter versions of your main lift.

Example for bench press:

  • Empty bar

  • Light weight

  • Moderate weight

  • Working sets

Final rep

Warm-ups are not wasted time. They prepare for the big lifts. It does not have to be complicated. It’s often overseen. But for the love of your joints, just do them.
